How To Celebrate Your Birthday : Useful Ideas

You want to know how to celebrate your birthday? I am thinking of the ways to celebrate my birthday because as it turns out, tomorrow July 9th is my birthday and everything seems hard to decide on. I however want to change the way I celebrate this day of my life – donate my birthday for a cause. It sounds weird right? It doesn’t have to for several reasons that I will explain to you.

how to celebrate your birthday

I never celebrated my birthday until a couple of years ago and I attribute that to where I was. Nobody really bothered much simply because not all of us are privileged enough to afford parties and gifts.

One night as I laid on the couch – not because I was forced to do so, something hit me; I realized that I could do whatever I wanted with my money and that included watching movies, eating at expensive restaurants or even buying things I felt I wanted. I could sleep on my comfortable bed because that is why I bought it. I am sure you might have felt the same thing too.

There is no doubt I am among the few people in this world that are fortunate enough to afford things. There are however millions of people and children in particular all over the world who wish they had clean water to drink or medicine. They have no idea where their next meal will come from. Meanwhile on this side of the isle, I am wishing for cool birthday gifts that will make no significant difference in anyone’s life except mine. There has to be a best way to celebrate a birthday besides that.

How to celebrate your birthday cheaply

I have personally, as an altruist, decided to donate my birthday and everything that will be given to me by all those who plan to, to a worthy cause. There are several ways to do this. I am very sure that birthdays are significant in our lives but it makes it even much much better if we could do something good to others who need us most. So, here are a few things I am considering doing for my birthday tomorrow:

  • Volunteer  – This is my favorite. I believe volunteering is the best way to change people’s lives as well as my own. The human race is always in need of a hand and I will just try my best here. This is just one thing I could do tomorrow.
  • Donate – Instead of accepting gifts from friends and family, they can just donate them to local charities or children’s hospitals. I think this is a remarkable thing. Let us be honest here, I most likely don’t need most of the gifts.
  • Other – There are so many ideas that I could choose from. One could be buying a homeless guy a meal instead using my lunch money. Spending time with a cancer patient (children’s hospital) and more. It is always about the little things.

As I complete this post, I would like to ask you for ideas on what I could do besides what I have listed above. Remember, this list is not just for me, it is for anyone who feels the same way I do.

You might have realized that you can do more with the little resources you have. There is nothing wrong with wanting gifts and celebrating our birthdays. There is nothing wrong with not partying and donating your gifts to others either.

I wrote this post to start a simple movement. Someone else might have done it and it doesn’t really matter because the message is simple: change someone’s life because it will change your own life.
